Class 2...phew!!

Mr. class II is officially done!!! It feels good!! He was rough, but we made it out alive! Ü
He is such a good sport and I am so grateful he was able to come in today!! My goal was to finish him and pass off lots of PEs. And that is what I did. I wanted to do universal scaling, but that was not going to happen, so I did explorer #2 and anterior scaling. Oh and last minute I did intra-oral camera. I personally think it is ridiculous you can not pass off more than 2 pes in one class period. Dumb. It is getting down to crunch time so, pes have got to start getting checked off!!
My class V comes in on monday, and I can not wait to finish her!! She is so sweet, and so cute, minus the old lady smell. She is perfect!! Goal is to finish her, and get some pes accomplished. It feels like this semester is flying by, and I am trying to hold on and stay caught up with it all!!

The shift...

So I absolutely love having instructor vining in our pod! He rocks and I just love him!! He is a great instructor and teacher!! He helps you with your "work on it" areas and then helps you with helpful tips!! T0day he showed me the "Shift" technique. Its amazing!! And yes it does help alot!! I told him I would dedicate a post to him, so here I am dedicating it to him!!
I finished my patient today, did i want to do sealants yes, did I have to wait for the Dentist yes. Was it a substitute dentist, yes and did he take over 40 minutes to finally get to Marie to check her teeth?...yes!! Was I going to wait....NO!!! So I did not end up doing sealants! Sucks because I was so ready to nail it out of the park, again....NEVER PLAN FOR ANYTHING!!! Just go with the flow!!
Today was a great day and Pod 1 kicked trash if I might add. We killed it today!! So good!!
I love me some Pod 1!!!!
My goal today was to finish anterior and posterior pes and scale all 3 quads in less than 1 hour....and guess what...home girl did just that!!! Sealants was apart of that goal...but lets just forget that was even there!! Ü

Erin Read + helping me = sweetest friend ever award

Hey hey hey guess who got a class five?! This girl....and better yet guess who has a removable appliance......this girls patient!! Oh ya baby! My cute class five lady came in today and she was perfect. Pocket depths just what they needed to be and hardly any calculus. It was lovely. And this time around she had a removable appliance so guess who else got to use that today?! Me! I was not expecting it so I was a little flustered when I had to pass the pe off, but overall it went well. I passed, and thats what matters. Plus I crossed that headache off my list of requirements! It was stressin me out to say the least if you know what I mean!! My patient was so darn cute, smelt like old lady, but hey....its ok, she cant help it. haha Anyways I really need to dedicate this post to my dear friend ERIN READ!!! This is a shout out to her!!
I LOVE HER!! IF IT WAS NOT FOR HER HELP, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO!!! SHE ROCKS MY SOCKS LITERALLY!!! Sadly, her patient never showed and so she was helping all of us. As a great friend, she was my assistant!!! WOW!! I owe her my first born child!! She helped me out so much. I had so soooooo much dental restorations to chart that without her it would have taken me ages!! Plus, throw in lesions up the ying yang, and you got yourself a long OD. Oh and might I add the HHx took 35 freakin minutes. My lady was a chit chatter if you couldn't guess. But when I found out my patient had a removable appliance sweet erin yelled out to me, uh do you want to do your removable appliance on her?! I thought for a second and I know my eyes lit up, of course I did!! Erin got everything ready for me and helped me out so much!!
ANYWAYS....moral of the story ERIN READ I love you and appreciate you so much!! Without you I would have been lost!! Thanks so much friend!! I love you and am so happy we are friends and thanks for all you did for me!! I owe you big time!!!

LAB Day

Lab days are one of my favorites. Its when you can sit and relax and not worry about seeing patients!! Thank the heavens above!! It literally so so nice!! Today we learned the Diagnodent, how to clean removable appliances and then did a blood glucose test!! It was fabulous! Minus the part of getting my finger pricked!! Yikes. I was seriously freakin out about that. My finger started to pulse because the poor thing knew what was coming. I was having a time, but we had to do it, so we did. Lets just say my finger was bruised for a couple days. Can you say wimp?
Lab day was grand, very long, but grand.

Class 2....

So today was definitely an off day for me! NOt on my
A game, but its whatever. That is going to happen!!
But my class 2 all i have to say is....UGH!!
And his tongue was brutal...it would not GET OUT OF MY WAY!!!
I tried everything and finally I had to say....as kindly as I could...
"SIR, PLEASSSSE RELAX YOUR TONGUE!!"
HAHA You would think that would help....NOPE!! Man oh man, he was a tough one.
Until next time, I know I dont have alot to write about today, but I did have an "awha"
moment....I realized that crowns will hold you up!! They feel like calculus (margins that is) but its not...there are more bad crowns than good ones!! So tip of the week, just go!

First time!

Today I was able to share a family with some of the other girls in clinic. I had a boy who was 16 years old, and he was so great! He was a 1b, but was super easy. Today I decided I needed to do conventional films on him, since I haven't done any films yet! Yuck. Lets just say I hate film. I would rather do digital! But it is what it is, and I had to wait and wait for those stinkin films! Waste of time I tell ya, waste of time! Anyways, my goal was to finish this kid, but with my problems in radiology, that did not happen! BUT...good news is, I finished an OD on him AND for the very first time got to scaling and finished a quad. Wow! I know this sounds lame, but I am proud of myself! I sped things up and just went! Next time when he comes, I am going to finish his mouth, do some sealants and pass off some pes!! This is going to be fun! Hopefully! Anyways, today was good, I just needed to prove to myself that I could do this and now I think I will soon be able to finish a lb in one appointment!!

Patients are blessings....sometimes Ü

I must tell you all about my insane "never want it to happen again, but im sure it will" story. Sunday day, my patient cancels on me, it has to happen to everyone and today was my turn. I was frantically...and when I say FRANTICALLY looking/calling people...I am not kidding!! I asked family, none of them could, I asked neighbors, friends, friends of a friend, etc the list goes on. I was a wreck. I could feel me start to hyperventilate, but I knew I could not let that happen! So, as it was a sunday, what better thing to do then pray. I PRAYED LIKED CRAZY! In th midst of all the craziness, I get a little text message on my phone. It was a lady in my ward. She asked if I needed patients still!! WHAT?! IS THIS REALLY HAPPENING?!! I immediately said yes of course. She said her parents were up for a cleaning and needed to come to someone cheap!! OH GOOD HEAVENS, if that was not a little tender mercy from God I do not know what is! I asked if her dad wanted to come in tomorrow since my patient cancelled and she said he would love too!! So I called him, went to his house, got a healthy history and we were on our way!! So lets fast forward................
Monday comes and since his last cleaning had been less than a year I could not take xrays, so Instructor vining said we would have to look clinically and make our classification from that. So I start to probe....4's start to pop up....5's pop up....and I get one little 6. He had moderate calculus on all teeth both supra and sub and from the looks of it I thought he was a class II. So when I had my OD check we figured out he was a CLASS II!!! AHHHHH i found my class 2! I have been stressing! I have only seen 1b's and dont get me wrong thats great but I need to finish requirements!! So moral of the story is....When you think you are donezo, your not. Someone is watching over you and is taking care of you!! Even in this stressful school environment. Ü Everything will work out how it should. Just have FAITH!!

Another one bites the dust!

So guess what, I finished another 1b Wednesday! My friend Treston came in on monday and I was able to take xrays and OD him and then Wednesday he came back so I could finish him up! My first quad took the longest and I think its because I still think there is stuff there when it really isn't! Because my last 3 quads I finished in 30-40 minutes! Instructor Caldwell is now in our pod and I love her! She is helpful and so sweet! Its nice to get changes sometimes! I missed only 2 spots which I could not even see I missed, but then she showed me and I definitely could see the white!! I think when I am under pressure I can finish so many quads, but the first quad is always my longest!! I hate it! My goal next time is to finish the first quad in 30 minutes or less! Wish me luck! I think I can do this, its just a matter of pushing myself!!! I need to start getting some pes done, so this will be interesting as well!! Hopefully I find my class 2 and 3!! Yikes!!
